Welcome to the Center for Obesity Surgery at the Hospital of Saint Raphael!  The Center was opened in 1995 to meet the needs of the severely obese patient, and was the first of its kind in Connecticut. Dr. Randolph B. Reinhold, director of the Center, has managed obesity centers in Boston and New Haven for over 25 years, and has served as a resource in training surgeons to perform obesity surgery.

The Center for Obesity Surgery has grown throughout the years. Currently there are five surgeons who perform a variety of bariatric surgical procedures, including laparoscopic and open gastric bypass, and adjustable gastric banding (LapBandĀ®).   In addition, the Center provides pre and post-op nutrition and counseling services.

Weight loss surgery produces the best sustained weight loss over time in severely obese patients where other therapies have failed.  Studies have also shown improvement of conditions associated with obesity, such as diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, GERD, and sleep apnea.  Please explore the information provided to help determine if weight loss surgery is an option for you or someone you know.
